Match Report for Lytchett Minster A Vs Lytchett Minster 2 on 08 Apr 2006

A’s vs. B’s or Red Vs Blue’s

Both Lytchett Minster teams were expecting to be playing at home this week, but unfortunately both of the travelling teams cancelled and left Lytchett without opposition. There was only one thing for it……..up into the loft to find the blue set of kit!

The sides were split pretty much along the lines of 1st verses 2nd, with a few exceptions. Conditions were perfect for running rugby and there was an atmosphere emanating from both sides, no prisoners were going to be taken.

The first team were playing in the blue kit with the two’s taking the traditional scarlet and navy hoops.

The first error was made by the red team when they kicked possession away straight to Scotty Wonder, who ran the ball in from 60 yards for the first score. This was Scotties 8th try of the season and Poolie was bricking it on the side lines that he may score more and overtake him as top try scorer. Despite being an easy kick Glen Huxter failed in his attempt.

Next it was the reds turn to score, with an excellent piece of forward play, which saw a perfectly executed catch and drive from a close line out. A bundle of red players crossed the line and Shaun Greenpost came up with the ball to claim the try. Oz Goldchain was kicking for the reds and he did equally as well as Glen and pulled the conversion and the scores were tied at 5 – 5.

The reds had not learnt their lesson, about kicking the ball directly to Scotty Wonder and when it occurred again, Scotty pounced and ran the ball in from 40 yards. Again Glen missed the conversion, but the score had increase to 10 – 5 in favour of the blue team.

Nearing the end of the first half Robby Ansel smashed over from close range under the posts and Glen could not miss this one. Score at half time 17 – 5 to the blues.

Despite the blue backs running riot, their pack was being dominated in the lineouts and scrums. This was the platform for a red revival in the second half. After a lot of forward pressure the new number 2, Bold Ian, score a great forward try. Oz converted and the reds were back in the match, 17 – 12.

The reds were definitely in the ascendancy now and with only minutes to go Gareth Copling dived in to tie the scores. The kick was well within Ozzy capability, but the pressure got to him and the ball sailed wide of the posts.

The match was tied at 17 – 17, but the moral victory went to the 2nd team playing in red!!!
