Match Report for Lytchett Minster 2 Vs Weymouth 2 on 04 Mar 2006

Lytchett Break The 60 Point Barrier

Lytchett Minster II hosted a side from Weymouth at the weekend in a Dorset & Wilts 3 South league match. Despite a hearty performance from Weymouth they could not prevent Lytchett from running in 11 unanswered trys, with Lytchett winning 63 – 0.

A small, but enthusiastic crowd watched the match in the bright sunshine and they were rewarded with some great play from the Lytchett team. Prop, Matt Deary was passed the ball 40 meters out and set off down the blind side. After rounding 2 defenders he managed to dive in at the corner. This set the trend for the match, with a further 4 trys being scored in the first half by Captain Graham ‘Forest’ Oliver, Red the Lithuanian Winger, Big Steve Hudson and another by Matt Deary. Lytchett were in a comfortable position at half time leading by 31 – 0.

Shortly into the second half Matt Deary completed his hatrick, when the Lytchett pack pushed over from short range and he emerged from a bottom of a rack with the ball. Man of the match Andy ‘Lanky’ Edwards got on the score sheet when he completed a great run down the blind side that incorporated the whole of the Lytchett pack at some stage. Not to be outdone, the Lytchett backs started to perform when winger Mark Adams scoring his first for the club. Next it was captain Oliver who found some space, which he exploited and ran in from 55 meters having dummied 2 of the Weymouth players. After some strong forward play, Weymouth found themselves on their own line with their defence in disarray. Up popped ‘Red’ to pounce and score his second. Mark the Eeel put the icing on the cake for Lytchett when he smashed over from short range and broke the 60-point barrier.

Despite scoring 11 unanswered trys, Oz Goldchain, Lytchett’s usually very reliable kicker had an off day and only converted 4 of the 11.

Even though 11 tries were scored against them, Weymouth never let their heads drop and continued to attack whenever possible.
