Match Report for Lytchett Minster 2 Vs Swanage & Ware 4 on 28 Jan 2006
Lytchett Lose Tight Game
Lytchett Minster 2nd team hosted Swanage & Wareham 4th team at the weekend and the large crowd at Lytchett Park were treated to some good running rugby from both sides on an extremely cold day. However, experience told and Swans were eventual winners 19 - 7.
Lytchett opened the scoring when centre Mark 'The Eel' Welsh finished off a good move from the stand-off Gareth Backnow, which put the Eel in lots of space, but there was still work to do, but the Eel slivered his way from the 22 and over the line. Oz Goldchain converted the try and Lytchett were in the lead 7 - 0.
Swans bounced straight back, when their stand-off ghosted through the Lytchett defence with a simple dummy. This try was also converted and the game was close at 7 - 7.
Ten minutes into the second half Swans were again on the attack and were rewarded for a relentless effort when an overlap appears following 4 phases of play and the winger touched down in the corner. The conversion was missed, but the lead had changed hands to Swans, 12 - 7. For the next quarter Lytchett camped deep in the Swans 22. Despite crossing the try line on 2 occasions, Lytchett could now find the elusive score. With a minute to go Swans kicked down field and the bounce of the ball beat the covering Lytchett winger. The ball was hacked on by the Swans centre and touched down for the winning try. Final score 19 - 7, but the match was a lot closer than this score suggested.
