Lytchett Minster II Beat Puddletown II

Lytchett Minster hosted Puddletown II at the weekend knowing that a win would keep them in the hunt for promotion.

Harry Boulter played for Lytchett Minster at his favoured position of stand-off, having been out of action for 4 weeks with a back injury. However, there were no signs of any ill affects and Boulter put in a great performance scoring Lytchett's 2 tries in their 10 – 5 win.

It was a close game, with both sides putting up strong defence. However, Lytchett were the first side to score when a impressive backs move saw the ball passed wide to the Lytchett wing JP. While JP stood up the Puddletown defence, Boulter rounded him to receive the ball on the outside and dived into the corner. Boulter missed the conversion from outwide and the half time score was 5 – 0 to the home team.

Boulter kept the Puddletown team pinned in their 22 and the Lytchett forwards applied to pressure to keep them there. Eventually, the pressure told, when scrum half Mark Hook got quick ball from open side Gwillym Poole and set off on a blind side scramble, which saw Boulter turn up on the wing to score his second try. Boulter again missed the conversion from the corner, but the lead had been increased to 10 – 0. Puddletown did not give up and fought to the last and were rewarded with a late try of their own. The conversion was missed, the final score being 10 – 5.

This win increased the Lytchett's league points score to 22, equal with Blandfords II, however Blandford have a better points difference, by 23.
Lytchett now only have 2 league games to go, away to Ivel Barbarians III, who have not been able to raise an away team for much of the season and home to local rivals Poole. However, Lytchett hope that Ivel fulfil their fixture, in order to give us the chance of reducing the points difference with Blandford. It will be an interesting last few games!!!
