Match Report for Lytchett Minster 2 Vs New Milton 3 on 29 Oct 2005
So Near and Yet So Far
Lytchett Minster II were due to play Verwood in the league on Saturday, but Verwood called off on the Friday night giving the league points to Lytchett.
New Milton III jumped in at the last minute and the great game was played, with New Milton running out eventual winners 15 - 13.
The game was played at an enjoyable pace, with both sides attacking. Lytchett were first to score when prop Tom Cox smashed over. Aaron Elvis converted the try and added a penalty before half time, with Lytchett going in at half time 10 - 0 up.
The second half saw New Milton rally and score two tries of their own. One which was converted and making the score 12 - 10 in favour of the visitors.
With 3 minutes to go Lytchett were awarded a penalty, which Elvis converted and Lytchett looked home and dry, the scores being 13 - 12. But with only a minute on the clock mature centre Glen Huxter struck one the opposition and was sent from the field. This gave New Milton the chance to win the match, which they did when their stand-off kicked the ball through the middle of the uprights. Final score 15 - 13 to New Milton
A great game to watch, with a disappointing result for all the effort that Lytchett had put into the match.
