Try Time For Lytchett
Lytchett Minster II's hosted East Dorset II's at Lytchett Park for the first time ever in the Dorset & Wilts 3 South league and notched up their second league win of the season. Despite the blustery conditions Lytchett managed to score 6 tries to run out victors 34 – 5.
East Dorset started strongly and were showing their muscle pushing the Lytchett scrum backwards. However, on 10 minutes the Lytchett backs found some space to exploit and passed the ball wide to winger Colin 'The Flying Scotsman' Grady, who bounced a couple of East Dorset tackles and sprinted for the line to score the opening try. Adam Deary missed the conversion.
From the resulting restart the Lytchett forwards secured the ball and passed to their stand-off Adam 'Never Kicks' Deary, who broke through the East Dorset defence. Deary then linked up with the talented centre Lewis Harvey who broke a tackle and then stood up the last covering defender, before passing the ball to the flying winger Colin Grady, who scored his second try of the afternoon. Deary converted the try that he had started and Lytchett were in the lead 12 – 0.
Centre Lewis Harvey then scored a try of his own, when he stepped inside and straightened to beat two defenders, before popping the ball up to the right winger Rob Franks, who waited for Harvey to loop him, before passing the ball to the unmarked centre who scored. Deary missed the conversion, but Lytchett had a commanding half time lead 17 – 0.
5 minutes into the second half and Deary again showed a touch of brilliance, when he set off on an amazing run through the centre of the field, before trying to round the last defender. However, he was caught in the corner 5 yards short of the line, but his brother Matt Deary was on hand to flop over from the resulting maul. Up stepped Oz Goldchain to successfully kick the conversion and the lead had been stretched to 24 – 0.
East Dorset rallied in the second half and scored a try of their own from a strong piece of forward play, which saw their blind side flanker score.
However, the resurgence was halted by Lytchett Minster when number eight Simon Haines finished off a great forwards effort in the corner, raising the score to 29 – 5, with Oz Goldchain having missed the conversion.
The final Lytchett try was scored by scrum half Shaun 'Greenpost' Gardener, when he sprinted in from his own 10 meter line, leaving 4 East Dorset player chasing his shadow. Oz Goldchain missed the final conversion, but Lytchett Minster had played attractive rugby and racked up 6 tries to win this important league game 34 – 5.
