Match Report for Lytchett Minster 2 Vs Dorchester 3 on 18 Feb 2006
Reed Does Length of Field
Lytchett Minster II hosted Dorchester III in a Dorset & Wilts Division 3 South league match at the weekend and were victorious for the second week running, with a final score of 27 12.
Lytchett were told to take the game to their visitors and thats actual what they did from the kick-off, as prop Garry Miles made a barn storing run up the blind side, flattening 4 defenders as he stampeded up the line. This set up great field position for Lytchett and after a further 2 phases of play centre Matt Greenslade straightened and broke through the Dorchester defence to score under the posted. Oz Goldchain converted and Lytchett were in the lead 7 0.
Lytchett carried on their attacked and were rewarded with two penalties, which Oz Goldchain converted and the lead was stretched to 13 0. Just before half time up popped Matt Greenslade, who dummied his way to the line, again giving Oz Goldchain another easy conversion, which he took and at half time Lytchett Minster were leading 20 0.
The second half was a completely different game. Lytchett had dominated the set plays in the first half, but Dorchester upped the tempo for the second period and ran the ball from everywhere. This tactic was rewarded straight away when 2 tries were scored in 10 minutes reducing the score line to 20 12. Dorchester continued to attack, but Lytchett were holding them in the set plays. Until with only 5 minutes to go Lytchett found themselves on their own line and were defending hard. The ball was turned over and centre Nick Reed was passed a very scruffy looking ball and from a standing start he broke the first line of defence and then pinned his ears back. Two Dorchester players started to chase, but Reed choose a good line to hold them off and powered through the full back to score under the posts, following his 95 meter run. Goldchain converted and the final score was 27 12.
