Away Cup Match
This game is dedicated to Gordon Glover, the founding member of Lytchett Minster RFC.
Lytchett Minster turned up to Wheatsheaf with a mixed team of 1st and 2nd team players due to the amount of injuries sustained in Hampshire 1. The team took awhile to bond that allowed Wheatsheaf to score 2 tries. Harry Boulter took the first step up the ladder and scored the first try for Lytchett that lifted the heads of the team after their current losses.
The game continued with Lytchett dominating most of the 2nd quarter but fitness was showing in the forwards with the hot weather and this allowed Wheatsheaf to break away from their lines. Harry broke their defensive line and passed the ball to Justin Pender on the wing. Justin managed to dodge a couple of tackles and run in to score his first try for the club. A third try was scored just before the end of the 1st half which left Lytchett ahead at half time.
The 2nd half started badly with Wheatsheaf scoring 2 tries within the first few minutes. This then forced Dean into making a few changes by bringing on some of the old guard to steady the lines. Graham Oliver came on to replace Johny Valencia to steady the centres and Daz Milne for Matt Deary to boost the forwards.
These changes worked with the forwards dominating the scrum and even stealing most of Wheatsheaf’s ball. This resulted in a lineout in Wheatsheaf’s half that was caught by Matt Sprague, quickly passed to the backs and resulted in a textbook try. This was the boost the team needed that then led to tries being scored by Scott Ricketts x2, Harry, Graham and Matt Sprague. Harry had brought his kicking boots and was kicking most of the conversions that soon put Lytchett well ahead.
The last 2 changes were made with Toby Cull who had had the best game ever being replaced by Tom Barber and Justin being replaced by Ben Absolom. Lytchett dominated the game in the last 30 minutes and with spirits and heads held high produced some of the best rugby played this season. Tadek Barnes finished of the game by scoring the final try that had been made by some powerful scrums and runs by the forwards.
