Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Weymouth 1 on 04 Feb 2006
Lytchett Lose Tight Affair
On the opening Day of the 6 Nation Internationals, Lytchett Minster fielded a club side to play a strong team from Weymouth in a local friendly match. In a close fought game Weymouth were the eventual winners 22 – 8.
Gwillyn Poole, Scott Wonder and Chris Reed were all playing strong rugby and spear headed the Lytchett attacks. But it was Weymouth who scored first, when their centre double dummied and when straight through the Lytchett line. The conversion was kicked and the Weymouth were ahead 7 – 0. Lytchett fought back and were rewarded with a penalty just before half time, which Vince Ward, playing stand-off, converted. So at half time Lytchett were down 7 – 3.
The second half was also a tense affair, but Lytchett were the first to score when Aaron Sniper ducked around the blind side of a scrum in the Weymouth 22 to score in the corner. The conversion was missed, but Lytchett were now in the led 8 – 7. After a few injuries and substitutions, the format of the game changed and Weymouth scored a further try and penalty to take the lead once more, 15 – 8.
This game was going to the wire, when Weymouth scored with the last kick of the game, when their quick fullback rounded the Lytchett defence. Weymouth converted the try to stretch the lead to 22 – 8 and everybody who played in this match agreed that this score line slightly flattered Weymouth, as the game was very close.
