Top of the Table Lytchett Minster Still Unbeaten


Lytchett Minster hosted Verwood in a Hampshire III league game at the weekend knowing that a win would continue their unbeaten record in the league this season and dispute Verwood putting up some spirited opposition the Manor Men were too powerful, running out winners, 45 – 5.

The Lytchett forwards were rampant, securing good ball for their backs and this platform allowed Lytchett to score 4 tries in the first half 1 for captain Rob Ansell from a lineout, 1 for full back Chris Pearson who found a huge hole through the middle and 2 tries for scrum half Aaron Bellamy snipping around the sides. Winger Gary Fooks only converted 1 of the tries, but kicked 3 penalties. So at half time Lytchett Minster were leading 31 – 0.

Verwood came out fighting in the second half and managed to score a try of their own, following some strong forward play, however the conversion was missed, but the score had been narrowed to 31 – 5. With 20 minutes to go in the match Lytchett Minster regained control of the match when hooker Ian Poulter dived over from close range. Gary Fooks converted the try and Lytchett were running away with the game 38 – 5. With ten minutes to go centre Steve Paine crashed through the Verwood defence and ran 40 yards to score the final try of the game, Fooks converted again and the score had to extended to 45 – 5.

It was a good game for Lytchett, scoring 6 tries and remaining unbeaten in the league. With half of the league having been played now, Lytchett has played ever side once and not been beaten. Could this be the year that Lytchett Minster go the whole season unbeaten in the league.......only time will tell!!!
