Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Ventnor on 29 Oct 2011
The game started well with both teams sizing up each other in the forwards and the backs. Ventnor’s forwards started to dominate the scrums but nobody gave up and eventually after putting Darren Mason from hooker to prop the pack became steady. Tension was high as this was a game both teams were determined to win and Ventnor started to become undisciplined.
Lytchett Minster opened up the scoreboard with a penalty being conceded by Ventnor on the 8th minute that was converted by Harry Boulter. This woke Ventnor up and they parked themselves in our 22 for the next quarter of an hour. Desperate defence from Lytchett kept the try line clear which enraged Ventnor and this was the beginning of some foul play off the ball.
Lythcett continued to put pressure on Ventnor and broke though their lines on the 34th minute. With a 2-man overlap a try was certain but the referee deemed that there had been a forward pass and stopped play. The referee had been playing advantage and Harry who had defiantly brought his kicking boots with him converted the penalty again.
In the final minute of the first half Daryl Cormack made one of the best tackles of the season but the referee deemed that it was a spear tackle and gave him a yellow card. Half time 6 – 0 to Lytchett Minster.
The second half started well with Lytchett having most of the possession. On the 53rd minute Justin Pender was injured and an ambulance was called. The game was moved to another pitch and Ben Absolom came on as a replacement. Thankfully Justin was released from hospital that evening.
With the change of pitch Ventnor sparked and attacked our lines down the right wing. A try was on the cards until Kyle Malton stopped play with a try saving tackle allowing us to restart with a lineout. Ventnor eventually were rewarded with a penalty in front of the posts which put the score 6 – 3.
On the 68th minute in open play Sam Tucker broke through Ventnor’s lines but foul play from a Ventnor player by hitting Sam while he was on the ground sparked Harry to support Sam. This led to Harry and the Ventnor player being given a yellow card each. Changes were made and Daz as a blood replacement replaced Jim Jeffries and Kiefer Lamb replaced Gavyn Harris on his debut for the 1sts.
Ventnor continued to attack and on the 77th minute scored the first try of the game. On the 78th minute Harry returned back to the pitch and kicked off to Ventnor. The ball was chased up and pressure put on by the pack led to a knock on by Ventnor. The scrum was set and Ventnor conceded a penalty by deliberate wheeling of the scrum. With no time left on the clock Harry went to take the final kick of the game. Harry took his time and lined himself up, kicked the ball and converted the penalty winning the game for his team.
