Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Stoneham on 28 Jan 2006

Lytchett Wonder!!!

Lytchett Minster 1st team travelled to bottom placed Stoneham on Saturday and struggled to assert the sort of dominance that they have been used to in the last few weeks. Confidence was high going into the match and three outstanding tries were good enough to win the match 17 - 10, but the overall performance was not up to standard that has recently been set.

Lytchett started well enough and were soon in the lead when second row Ray Lillyput scored following a strong forward rumble. The conversion was made by Marty Rockley and Lytchett were 7 - 0 up after 10 minutes. However, Stoneham started to play some good rugby and started to push Lytchett back in their own half. On the half hour the home team were rewarded for their hard work with a converted try, quickly followed by a penalty. This made the half time score 10- 7 to the home team.

The second half was different, with Lytchett re-establishing control through their forwards. However, Stoneham still put up a tough defence, until Scott Wonder was afforded space from a wayward kick and stepped through 3 tackles to power 45 metres to score in the corner. The conversion was missed, but Lytchett were back in the lead, 12 - 10.

Star of the match Scott Wonder was again on the score sheet 5 minutes later, when he hit the line at speed and broke through the first line of Stonehams defence, dummied past the covering back row and sprinted for the corner. This time the try was started in Wonders own half. The conversion was missed, but Lytchett now had a slight lead 17 - 10.

The final 10 minutes was a tense affair with Stoneham attacking, but Lytchett managed to hang on for a victory, 17 - 10.
