Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Stoneham on 10 Mar 2007

Lytchett Minster Take Top Spot

Lytchett Minster travelled to Stoneham at the weekend, knowing that no other league games were being played today in Hampshire Division III and that a win would put them top of the league.

Despite a hearty performance by the home team, Lytchett Minster were too powerful and ran in 9 unanswered tries, all scored by the Lytchett backs. The final score being 59 – 0.

A first half hatrick of tries for stand-off Scotty Ricketts, enabled Lycthett to command the game from the start. Centre James English scored 4 tries and was the Lytchett Minster man of the match, with some excellent straight line running. A try a piece for scrum half Shaun Gardener and winger Red Baltrusis took the try haul up to 9. Ricketts converted 7 of the tries. Daryl Cormack should have taken the try total to 10, but dived over the dead ball line when clean through, with the referee disallowing the try. Lucky Lytchett were home and dry, or it could have been a very costly mistake.

Lytchett Minster still have 2 league games left, however, a victory on the 31st of March, when they play 3rd placed Overton at home, will see them win the league title, with a game still to play.
