Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Romsey 2 on 18 Mar 2006

Lytchett Keep Clean Sheet

Romsey were the guests at the Watery Lane ground this week and the home status seemed to work wonders for the Lytchett team, who had not been playing well of late, as they ran out comprehensive winners, 17 – 0.

For whatever reason, the Lytchett pack dominated a team who's own pack were large by any normal standards; they drove the mauls, were quicker to the rucks and powered through the scrums. All in all it was a fine all round performance, although the forwards were the dominant force for the whole team effort. And this showed with the forwards scoring all three of the Lytchett tries.

After only 5 minutes Andy (Could pop up anywhere) Mac scored. He asked me to say that it was a storming 50-yard dash, but he obviously did not bribe me well enough and I can confirm that he flopped over from only 3 yards, but they all count, I suppose. Marty missed the conversion, but to be fair it was blowing a houlee. So at half time the score was only 5 – 0 to Lytchett, but the manor men had had most of the possession.

Straight after the halftime break (And the boys really needed it, as they were blowing out of their preverbal) Shaun Greenpost scampered over from close range. Again Marty missed the conversion, but to be fair it was blowing a houlee!!!, and Lytchett were leading 10 – 0. And finally, very late in the game Shaun Greenpost (Shauny Gardener to his mates, but Greenpost to his fans) touched down after the pack had driven over, again from close range. Amazingly Marty made the conversion, even though it was blowing a houlee (Hurray!!!). Lytchett had recorded their first win in some time, 17 – 0, and also kept a clean sheet.

Coach Steve Mathews said 'A better performance all round. It's amazing what 10 minutes on the scrumage machine can do. Now I must get on because we have a Tarts and Vicars Disco tonight and I must iron my dress'.
