Poolie Misses Kick Preventing Lytchett Half Century
Lytchett Minster hosted Poole in the first round of the Dorset Vase at the weekend. The match was a one sided affair with Lytchett running out 49 - 0 winners.
Oz Goldchain opened the scoring for Lytchett with a well struck penalty on 10 minutes. Next it was the flying Scotsman, Colin Greyde, who impressed as he rounded the Poole defence to score in the corner. The conversion was missed, but Lytchett were in the lead by 8 - 0 for 20 minutes. Lytchett’s backs were starting to work their magic, when Scott Wonder scored 2 tries, 1 of these from deep in Lytchett’s own half. Oz Goldchain converted one of these and Lytchett were winning by 20 - 0 at half time.
Lytchett started the second half as they had finished the first. The red and blue scrum exerted pressure on their Poole counterpart and the ball was spilled out the back on the Poole side. Scrum half Shaun Greenpost gathered the ball and ran in from 40 meters. This was quickly followed by tries from Gwillym Poole, Daryl Cormack and Andy Mac. Lytchett had racked up 49 unanswered points to win the match comprehensively. Gwillym Poole requested that he take the final kick of the match, to break the 50 point mark, but despite Andy Mac’s try being under the posts, Poolie pulled the conversion attempt, leaving Lytchett just shy of the half century.
