Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Overton on 18 Feb 2006
Lytchett season OVER....TON
With heads held high a reassembled team arrived at Overton with high expectations of winning, but the first quarter was a mark of what was to come.
First, when 1st team debut man, Tom Cox went off after 10 minutes with a pulled muscle in his neck, big Dean Mitchell was keen to cartwheel on to the pitch as front row replacement, and did his job with ultimate force!!
Overton came at Lytchett with well drilled moves that the backs could just not match. Other injuries came up fast with two Overton players being carried off the field of play. Then a moment of panic when Gwillym Poole and Chris Strudwick went down in agony! But after a quick visit from the team physio, Kelly, both were able to carry on.
When the second half came Shaun Gardener and Aaron Bellamy boosted team aggression to pick them up for a hard hitting half in which Lytchett had most of the possession. When an Overton player was penalised for being off side, Scott Ricketts kicked to the corner for a catch and drive line out in which good communication from No. 7 Shaun Gardener and hooker Gwillym Poole enabled the hooker to peel off and dive over the line for a well deserved 9th try of the season.
But unfortunately for Lytchett, their efforts were in vane as the well drilled Overton ran in a few more converted tries. So then the unimaginable result was created, Overton 32 Lytchett 5.
