Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs New Milton 2 on 07 Oct 2006

Lacklustre Lytchett Narrowly Lose

Lytchett Minster travelled to New Milton at the weekend to face the green and whites second fifteen in a friendly. Despite leading at half time by 6 – 0 Lytchett were not showing the desire and flare of previous weeks and inevitably this led to their downfall, eventually losing 12 – 6.

Lytchett started brightly and were soon in the lead through 2 penalties from bright young thing Scott Ricketts, playing at stand-off. Both sides showed great defence to hold the other out and at half time Lytchett were 6 – 0 in the lead.

Early in the second half Lytchett were awarded another kickable penalty, which was turned down in favour of a quick tap and run. However, the ball was turned over and New Milton ran the length of the field to score their first points of the match. The conversion was missed and Lytchett were still in the lead 6 – 5, but the score should have been 9 – 0, if the correct option had been taken over the kickable penalty.

New Milton finished the game the stronger side and managed to take the lead with 10 minutes to go, when some poor Lytchett tackling allowed the centre to finish off a move that saw him touch down underneath the posts. The try was converted and the final score was 12 – 6. Lytchett attacked until the very end, but could not find the spark of magic that would win them the match. The match was there to be won, but there was something missing in the Lytchett performance. Let’s hope they find it before next weeks important league game against Kingsclere.
