Match report Lytchett Minster XV vs Millbrook 08 Oct 11
The game started well with both sides sizing each other up and attacking and defensive plays being even. Quick hands from Millbrook moved the ball from a set play on the wing to the opposite side leaving an overlap. Several tackles were missed which allowed Millbrook to score their first try after 7 minutes. This was soon followed by a second try that was again contributed by missed tackles from the Lytchett defence.
Lytchett Minter’s set plays seemed to fade away with losing our lineouts and being driven back on the scrums. The forwards made up for their mistakes with a 15-minute phase of hard play attacking Millbrook but were unable to break their defence. Millbrook scored a further 4 tries in the first half leaving the score at 38 – 0 to Millbrook.
At half time with several walking wounded, changes had to be made. Jake Malton for Justin Pender, Toby Cull for James Sims and Daz Milne for Jim Jefferies.
Millbrook started the second half as they finished the first by drawing in players with their forwards and releasing their backs to score tries. 5 minutes into the second half, Sam Tucker who had run his heart out all game received a blow to the head and had to be taken to hospital for further treatment. Thankfully he was released that day and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Matt Sprague challenged the ball at the restarts and managed to recover half of them either by catching the ball or tapping it back to his own side. Kyle Malton was drafted into the forwards and had a good game as flanker with some hard tackles and good runs being made.
The scrum with one man down withstood Millbrooks push that allowed some good phases of play between the forwards and the backs. This allowed the forwards to drive the ball just short of Millbrooks 22 and release the backs. Scott Ricketts chipped the ball over the defensive line that he collected and scored.
