Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Kingsclere on 14 Oct 2006
Lytchett Minster Dig Deep To Win
Lytchett Minster hosted Kingsclere in a Hampshire III league game at the weekend, which saw Lytchett Minster run out victorious 24 – 8. Despite the score line the manor men did not have it their own way.
Kingsclere were straight out of the blocks and tearing into Lytchett from the off. They were rewarded early on with a try from their forwards which was not converted. Then Kingsclere were awarded a number on kickable penalties, of which only one was converted. This saw Kingsclere leading after a quarter of the match 8 – 0. Lytchett Minster managed to rally and stopped the onslaught, with some strong forward play on their own. Following 5 minutes and sustained pressure stand-off Harry Boulter finally crossed the Kingsclere line to score Lytchett’s first try. Boulter converted his own try and Lytchett were back in the match with the scores at 7 – 8 to Kingsclere. Next it was the turn of the promising Lytchett centre Lewis Rusty to score a try for the home team, when he rounded off an excellent backs move that saw every Lytchett back touch the ball. Boulter converted again and Lytchett were leading at half time 14 – 8.
The second half was evenly matched. However, with 20 minutes to go Kingsclere attacked again and were on the Lytchett line. They managed to cross the line twice, but each time they were held up. Eventually Lytchett managed to recapture the ball and Boulter cleared the Red and Blue line. This was the spark that Lytchett needed. From the resulting lineout the Lytchett forwards marched up the field and crossed the Kingsclere line. Captain Rob Ansel emerged from the pile of bodies clutching the ball and proceeded to celebrate. Although the try was scored in the corner Boulter added the two points and the score was increased to 21 – 8. Lytchett kept up the pressure for the remainder of the match and Boulter added a further penalty to the score line, making the final score 24 – 8. Harry Boulter was man of the match, scoring 14 of the Lytchett points.
This was a great victory for Lytchett, continuing their unbeaten run in the league this year.
