Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Fordingbridge on 24 Jan 2004

Unlucky Lytchett Lose Again

Lytchett Minster hosted local rivals Fordingbridge at the weekend, with both teams desperately needing a victory.

It was an entertaining game, which saw both teams missing two penalties each in the first half. Lytchett showed the greater determination to attack, but Fordingbridge matched their enterprise with staunch defending. This meant that neither side could break the deadlock and the half time score was 0 - 0.

In the second half the game came alive. Fordingbridge kicked two early penalties to give them an early led. Lytchett responded by bringing on flanker Vince Ward in an attempt to improve their attacking options. This seemed to work, as Ward provided the missing attacking link between the Lytchett backs and forwards. Fordingbridge were awarded another kickable penalty, which was converted and Fordingbridge were sitting pretty with 9 points and for all their dominance, Lytchett had no points top show for a strong display.

However, with ten minutes to go Lytchett made the breakthrough they had been looking for. The ball was thrown to the middle of an attacking lineout and popped down to the prop Gary Miles to attack the line Miles pressed the ball to Ward who powered for the line, with pressure being applied from the rest of their pack. The line was not reached and the ball was recycled and passed wide to full back Adam Deary to score. Centre Steve Payne converted the try, but Lytchett lose again, 7 - 9.

Lytchett really are looking over their shoulders now at the relegation zone.
