Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Farnborough on 19 Nov 2011



Lytchett Minster had a great start with combined forwards and backs play seeing Lytchett in Farnborough’s half from the kick off and John Hollingsworth scoring a try within 2 minutes. Harry Boulter kicked the conversion. Farnborough fought back and were rewarded with a try a couple of minutes later soon followed by a penalty.

Farnborough continued to attack with aggressive runs and hard plays from their forwards and backs. The defence was solid with hard tackles being made, especially from John Hollingsworth and Pieter Maritz and for the next 15 minutes play remained in the middle of the pitch. Gavyn Harris turned over the ball on Farnborough’s 22 and made a run for the line, pushing off several tackles he scored our second try that Harry converted.

This gave the team a boost and straight after the kick off Lytchett attacked again with determination. Lytchett broke through their defence and with a good phase of passes between the backs Harry ran in to score a third try on the 26th minute. Lytchett continued to have the better run off play and Pieter made a great break through their defence, which, if he had support could have resulted in a try. Farnborough broke out off there half and against the run of play scored their second try.

The lads continued to attack with a brilliant run from Kyle Malton taking Lytchett just short of Farnborough’s try line. Farnborough’s number 13 received a yellow card for delaying the play of the ball, which the referee deemed as a professional foul on the 37th minute. Gavyn took the ball and touched down over the try line but this was not rewarded as the referee deemed the ball had been knocked on. This was defiantly a try but the referee was on the wrong side and made a terrible decision. Lytchett finished the scoring in the first half with a penalty on the 40th minute that Harry converted. Half time Lytchett Minster 22 vs Farnborough 15.

Farnborough came out fighting in the second half and were soon rewarded with a try within 4 minutes. This would have been doubled within a minute if Adam Carrier had not made a great tackle just short of our try line. A change was made on the 53rd minute with Gayvn coming off through injury and being replaced by James Sims. This was soon followed with Adam Carrier being replaced by Ross Connor who were both playing their first game for Lytchett Minster.

The team continued to attack and the backs run the ball into there 22. The forwards then took over and with several phases of play, Matt Sprague run in the 4th try on the 58th minute to seal the bonus point. Harry kicked the conversion. Daz Milne replaced Toby Cull who had been solid in the second row.

Farnborough were rewarded a penalty try after several scrums had been deemed to be deliberately wheeled which brought the scores level on the 74th minute. Several penalties were conceded and Farnborough were back on our 5-yard line. With only a few minutes remaining Farnborough scored the final try after several strong scrums were defended.

This was a game that was snatched from us but showed improvement in the team. Enjoy the break next weekend but lets build on this by training together.
