Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Chineham on 16 Feb 2008

1st Team Match Report

Lytchett Minster went to Chineham at the weekend, hoping to make it 3 league wins in a row and their travelling supporters were not disappointed, with Lytchett running out winners 17 – 7.

Lytchett opened to scoring on 5 minutes when Fujian centre Laisiasa ‘Vinney’ Vinakadina started a move from behind his own line. After taking on a number of Chineham players, he chipped the ball 30 yards and proceeded to chase the ball down. The ball was skilfully collected and Vinney rounded the final tackler to score under the posts. Fujian centre Semesa ‘Roko’ Rokoduguni converted the try and Lytchett had the led 7 – 0. The Lytchett forwards then started to show some dominance with some close quarter mauling, which resulted in being awarded a penalty from close range, which Roko converted, extending Lytchett’s led to 10 – 0.

Roko then scored the try of the match when he ran 75 yards, breaking at least 6 tackles to score under the posts. He converted his own try and the half time score was 17 – 0.

The second half was a frustrating affair for Lytchett, with Chineham coming back into the match using some creative back play of their own. Despite great runs from the Number 8 position Daryl Cormack could not bulldozer these way through and the game went into stalemate. However, with 5 minutes to go Chineham mounted a sustained attack, which saw their stand-off eventually score in the corner. The Chineham 10 also converted his try to reduce the score to 17 – 7. However, there were only minutes to go and when the final whistle eventually was blown Lytchett were have to take the victory.

This was the third league win in a row for the Manor Men and has propelled when up the league into 5th position. Lytchett have a further 3 league games to play and a victory in one of these matches will put Lytchett in a safe position in the league.
