Match Report for Lytchett Minster 1 Vs Alresford on 07 Feb 2004

Lytchett Minster Put Up A Fight

When you are desperate for points the last thing you want to do is play away to one of the top teams in the league. But that what Lytchett Minster had to do, when they travelled to Alresford at the weekend.

Dispute the differences in their league positions the two teams showed equal ability in the first half. Alresford scored first when some poor tackling by the Lytchett backs allowable the Alresford winger to break free and score in the corner. The try was not converted. This seemed to wake Lytchett up and they started to play some exciting rugby. The Lytchett pressure was beginning to tell, when they were awarded three penalties in a row. Lytchett drove for the line, but the Alresford defence stood firm and Lytchett were thwarted. However, with 10 minutes left in the first half Lytchett were rewarded when super prop, Dean Dennett, ran in from outside the twenty two. Again the conversion was missed, but the game was posed at 5 - 5.

Lytchett continued to attack in the second half, but as the game drew on tried legs started to show from the 15 Lytchett men who had travelled and Alresford were afforded two further tries, one of which was converted. With minutes to go Alresford sealed the victory by converting a penalty, making the score 20 - 5.

Lytchett were disappointed with the result, having been in the match for sixty of the eighty minutes, but are looking to their next league match against Nomad at home next week for a much needed win.
