Lytchett Narrowly Lose Again At Home
Lytchett Minster 5 Aldershot & Fleet 8
Lytchett Minster hosted Aldershot & Fleet at the weekend in extremely blustery conditions and were narrowly beaten 5 – 8.
Playing with the wind, Aldershot showed their intent from the start by pushing the usually solid Lytchett pack all over the park and this power was soon rewarded when the blue and white backs found some space to score in the corner. The conversion was missed. However, The travelling side were soon 8 – 0 up, when a penalty was given close to the Lytchett line. The writing seemed to be on the wall for the Lytchett side, however, they slowly turned the game around and went in at half time not having conceded any further points.
The second half was a different game, with Lytchett playing with the wind and spending a large amount of time in the oppositions half. Lytchett were eventually rewarded for their own impressive forward play, when back row star Dean Dennett powered over to finish off a maul of some 25 meters. Harry Boulter missed the conversion and the chance to narrow the score line further. However, the score had been reduced to 5 – 8 to the travelling side.
Both sides had more chances to increase their score, but the defences for both teams really worked hard and no additional tries were scored. The final score was 5 – 8.
That was the third home game where Lytchett Minster had lost by less than 3 points. Will they come to regret these narrow losses come the end of the season……only time will tell.
